Recently, Google announced that it is officially shutting down Google+, a social media service it launched in 2011 to compete with Facebook, but which never gained much popularity. If you use Google+, you may have already experienced issues when trying to post or access previously posted content. After April 2nd, you will lose the ability to access Google+ altogether.
How Will This Affect Our Customers?
Although BrightFire did not post any social media content to Google+, we know that several of our customers maintained their own Google+ pages. In addition, some of them requested to display links to their Google+ pages on their websites. Since these links are no longer beneficial for our clients or their customers, we plan to delete these icons and links from our websites this month.
BrightFire Expands Social Media Content Service
While Google+ may be ending, we are excited to use this opportunity to begin posting custom content to the Google My Business profiles of clients who are enrolled in one of our Social Media Marketing Packages. Having a well-optimized Google My Business listing can increase chances of showing up in Google’s Local Pack, Local Finder, Google Maps, and organic rankings in general.
This means that when prospective customers find one of our websites through Google, they will also see any custom agency updates straight from this search results page. These posts will stay active for 7 days at a time and can highlight promotions, giveaways, agency news, new carriers, and more.
Most importantly, these posts provide the invaluable service of showing customers content even before they click on a website. This new service is expected to be available to our Social Media Marketing customers in the first quarter of 2019.
